A Note on Anonymous Accounts

A handful of anonymous Instagram accounts have appeared recently targeting WCT, Squared™, or Quadside. The main ones are @handtagmemes and @foottagmemes.

We’re not going to spend much time on this. But a few things are worth saying once.

The Pattern

@foottagmemes is about a week old, and four of their seven posts directly attack Quadside or Squared™. The recurring theme is that the Squared™ rankings favour France.

The reality is simpler: French gyms hosted ranked sessions, French players showed up, and they performed. Gabin Pariel is ranked first because he attended the most sessions and won. That’s how ELO works. If you want a higher ranking, play more and win more.

France reached four consecutive Worlds finals and won twice. At WCT6, two of three French teams made the semi-finals while only one of four US teams did. If the French look good, it’s because they’re performing.

« You Don’t Even Play »

One post told Quadside to « mind your damn business… you don’t even play. » Funnily enough, both anonymous accounts were not listed in the circle to « mind their own business »

Referees don’t need to play. Neither do gym owners, broadcasters, sponsors, reporters, commentators, camera operators, or team strategists. None of them need to step on the Quad™ to contribute.

For what it’s worth, Thomas started playing less than a year after WCT1. Greg Ball is a three-time World Champion. Moua manages team Vanguard and competed with APEX Venom. Alex plays competitively and trains weekly. But credentials aren’t the point. You don’t need to play to care about the sport or contribute to it.

The Right Response

Not everyone reacts to disappointment by making memes.

Rooftop Kings saw their ranking and didn’t like it, so they trained harder and showed up ready to prove the system wrong at Worlds. Aaron Lucas from Dexterity Depot believes his team deserves a higher spot, so he’s grinding and putting in the work to prove it.

That’s how you respond when you think you deserve better. You earn it.

What We’re Doing Instead

We’re not interested in a back-and-forth with anonymous accounts.

We host livestreams, write articles, answer questions, and put our names on our work. We’re sponsoring Hollywood Freerunners and Parkour59 at Worlds and we have a booth at the event. We’re building something.

If you disagree with us, say so publicly. We’ll respond. If you want to create content, do it. Viktor from Quality Movement didn’t like the agressive tone and started making his own memes instead. We love that. The sport is better when more people contribute.

If you want to join Quadside, reach out. We need help with articles, live shows, social content, and our stand at Worlds.

That’s where our energy is going. Worlds is around the corner. See you there.
